Feast Red, 2019, Semeli Winery, Nemea and Atalanti
This wine will take you back, not quite as far as ancient Greece, but certainly to a time when you first discovered fresh fruit flavour. This is a simple, sumptuous red, made for summer sipping. A Feast for the eyes, and the taste buds.
Nemea and Atalanti
About this wine
It doesn't take a Herculean effort to conquer this Greek Feast. It's well balanced, fresh, and unoaked, which really brings out the summer fruit notes from the Agiorgitiko grapes. The addition of Cabernet Sauvignon gives structure and a little bit of a darker fruit edge, which perfectly compliments the lighter fruitiness of the Agiorgitiko, without overpowering.
It's dinner time and you're in search of something that will put a smile on everyone's face. The food is made for a red wine, but which one? It's hard to please everyone when you're opening a red for drinking, but if you open a bottle of Feast, you're sure to win over the crowd.
What Makes It So Grape?
Produced in Nemea and Atalanti
Founded in 1979 by the Kokotos family, Semeli started life as a producer of wines made from international grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay. At the turn of the millennium they acquired new vineyards near Nemea, and began making wines with Greek grapes. This wine is a blend of both these areas of expertise, using the native Greek variety Agiorgitiko, and the internationally planted Cabernet Sauvignon.
Traditional processes and expert craftsmanship when blending indigenous and international grapes make for exceptional wines, and winemaker Leonidas Nassiakos at Semeli is a master of this.
