Valserrano Finca Monteviejo Rioja, 2016, Bodegas de la Marquesa, Rioja
An absolute Rockstar of a wine and we are definitely its biggest fans. This one's a bit of a heart stealer… think juicy black cherry in a leather jacket with a cigarette, Marlon Brando style.
The Four Point Lowdown
- Red cherry goodness with a hint a tobacco-like sweetness
- Really bright fruit with some serious depth of flavour, a wine that takes you on a taste journey
- Pork based dishes will work a treat
- Perfect for treating someone special
About this wine
If it's not the heady cranberry and cinnamon aroma that has you hooked it will be the intense warmth and spice and the grippy tannins. This wine is bold, charming and unapologetic. It has so much character, it could have its own TV show.
Aged for 18 months in French oak casks, these grapes are from single vineyard vines planted over 70 years ago. This wine is dark, textured and modern with an abundance of flavours from black cherry to plum to liquorice to tobacco, with a fresh and persistent finish. In short it's the dog's bollo..., well you know.
